How did you find the site? How has it changed your workouts?
I found the site on Apple iTunes when I was looking for an app to track my workouts. The app (and website) have made working out even more fun and has helped to keep me accountable.
Do you have any long term goals or direction you plan to take your training?
I’m actually in the process of switching my training to CrossFit. I like the structure, the challenge, intensity, and camaraderie that it brings.
And I’m also planning on participating in some obstacle races, such as Tough Mudder, later in the year.
What are things you’ve learned through trial and error? What areas do you hope to learn more about?
Nutrition. It’s taken a lot of trail & error throughout the years to figure out what works and what does not. When it comes to nutrition, you need to find something you enjoy doing for the long-term or else you won’t do it at all.
As for an area(s) I hope to learn more about, I’d have to say that mobility and balance work are areas I’m concentrating on.
Currently, where would you say your weakness lies? Where do you excel?
At the moment, my squat strength has been weak. But I have been steadily working to improve that.
I have to say that I excel with my endurance. No matter how challenging the workout has been on that day, I seem to be able to give a little more at the end.
What motivates you?
Trying to improve on my performance from either the previous day or week. It could be going for 1 extra rep or an extra 10 lbs or improving my time in a particular exercise. I just want to get better, even if it’s just a small increment.
Are you using any supplements or special dietary changes to achieve your goals?
The only supplements I use are protein powder for my post-workouts, multi-vitamins, omega 3 fish oil for joint health, and creatine for athletic performance. I’m also experimenting with aroma therapy and how it affects fitness performance.
If you could give advice to someone starting off, what would you tell them?
Set some realistic goals (short & long-term), have a plan, be consistent, and be patient. Trust the process and embrace the grind. You will certainly face obstacles, but these obstacles will make you stronger and make goal achievement that much more rewarding.
What’s your ‘secret weapon’, the thing that pushes you or you feel gives you an edge?
I have several years of experience under my belt when it comes to weight loss and keeping fit. So my knowledge (as well as my dedication) would be my edge. If I get off-track or am struggling with a certain aspect of fitness, I can always fall back on my built-in foundation to get things going again.
What has the overall impact of Fitocracy been in your life?
I’m reminded me of an African proverb: “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
The more support you have, the more likely you’ll stay committed to your goals. The Fitocracy community has made the fitness process much more enjoyable and rewarding.
And I’ve also made some good friends on here and learned a lot from their knowledge and experience.
One thing I want people to take away from my story is…
You need to be consistent with your fitness and be patient with your fitness. Being and staying fit is a life long process, so you need to continually work on it, day in and day out. Invest on your fitness so that you can live a full and vibrant life, as you get older. Make sure you’re also having fun along the way.
Do you know an amazing, interesting, outstanding Fito ? We’d love to know about them, too ! Nominate them to be featured in an upcoming Fitocracy Member Spotlight by emailing us here.
